JanitorAI and SillyTavern describe a character the same way, with a personality, a scenario, a first message and example dialogue, but they store it differently. The converter maps one onto the other, estimates tokens, and tells you what didn't come along.
How to convert a JanitorAI character
- 1Copy her fieldsOn JanitorAI, copy Personality, Scenario, Initial message and Example dialogs, each with its label.
- 2Paste and convertThe converter finds each field and fills in a V2 card.
- 3Check and fixEdit any field, add her picture, and read the warnings.
- 4DownloadSave a PNG card for SillyTavern, or JSON. Or chat with her here.
How JanitorAI fields map to a SillyTavern card
Each JanitorAI field has a place on the card:
- Personality becomes the description. JanitorAI's main field holds her whole sheet, and SillyTavern reads the same from the description.
- Scenario stays the scenario.
- Initial message becomes the first message.
- Example dialogs become example dialogue. {{user}} and {{char}} lines work in both.
- Character bio becomes creator notes. JanitorAI says the bio has no influence on behavior (bot creation guide), and the card spec keeps creator notes out of prompts (V2 spec).
What doesn't come along
Only what you paste ends up on the card. Images and links in a bio aren't card text, so add her picture to the PNG instead. Prompt settings from the app you used stay behind, and so does any lorebook.
Can't see a bot's Personality and Scenario? Its creator hid the definition, and only they can share it. You can always convert bots you made yourself.
Token counts, and why they matter
Description, personality and scenario are sent with every message, so they're permanent tokens. The converter estimates them at about four characters per token. JanitorAI's bot creation guide suggests staying under about 2,000 permanent tokens if you want a bot to work with its free model (source).
Card to text
Going the other way? Drop a card in the Card to text tab and copy plain labeled text: name, description, personality, scenario, first message, alternate greetings and example dialogue. Lorebooks, system prompts and creator notes are listed as left behind. To edit a card's fields one by one, use the character card viewer.
