Our Agreement

A consent and communication agreement between Partner A and Partner B.

  1. 1. Who we are

Partner A (Dominant) and Partner B (submissive) make this agreement together.

It starts on ____________. We review it on ____________, or sooner if either of us asks.

    • We are both adults, 18 or older, and we enter this agreement freely, sober and informed.
    • Nobody has been pressured into anything written here. Saying no is always allowed.
  2. 2. Consent and the right to stop

    • Consent can be withdrawn at any moment, by either of us, for any reason.
    • Either of us can stop any scene, or end this agreement, at any time, without argument, punishment or penalty.
    • Anything not written here is off-limits until we've talked about it and both said yes.
    • A yes to something once is not a yes forever. We ask again before we repeat it.
  3. 3. Safe words and signals

A safe word or signal is respected right away, every time, and is never punished or argued with.

    • "Red" means stop now: the scene ends and we check in.
    • "Yellow" means slow down or ease off, and check in.
    • "Green" means all good, keep going.
    • If speaking is hard: Drop whatever I'm holding, or tap three times.
  4. 4. Limits

Hard limits are never crossed. Soft limits only happen after we talk first, and then slowly.

    Hard limits

    • None listed yet. We talk about these before we play.

    Soft limits

    • None listed yet.
  5. 5. Check-ins

We check in after every scene: how we feel, what worked and what we'd change.

Either of us can ask for a check-in at any time, and it happens.

  6. 6. Protocols

These apply only as written, and only while this agreement is in place.

    • A scene only starts after we both say green.
  7. 7. Aftercare

After every scene we make time for aftercare. What helps:

    • Water and a snack
    • Cuddling or being held
    • Talking about how the scene went
  8. 8. Privacy

    • What we do together stays between us.
    • No photos, video or recordings without fresh permission each time.
    • Either of us can ask the other to delete any photo or message, and it gets deleted.
  9. 9. Health and safety

    • Sober play only: no alcohol, drugs or anything else that clouds judgment, before or during a scene.
    • We share anything that affects play: injuries, health conditions, medications and allergies.
    • Safety shears and a first-aid kit stay within reach whenever we use restraints.
    • Nobody who is restrained is ever left alone.
    • No restraint or pressure on the neck, ever.
  10. 10. Review, renegotiation and ending

    • We can renegotiate any part of this agreement whenever either of us asks, and at every review.
    • Either of us can end this agreement at any time just by saying so. Ending it ends every rule and protocol at once, and nobody owes an explanation.

How to use the BDSM contract template

  1. 1Talk firstHave the conversation before you fill anything in. The form is a checklist for that talk, not a substitute for it.
  2. 2Fill in the formNames or initials, roles, dates, safe words, limits, protocols, aftercare, privacy and safety.
  3. 3Read it togetherThe agreement updates as you type. Read it out loud and change anything that doesn't sound right.
  4. 4Print, copy or downloadSave it as a PDF, copy the text, or download a .txt file. Review it on the date you set.

What goes in a BDSM contract

A good agreement answers the questions you'd otherwise have to guess at in the moment. This template covers:

  • Who: names or initials, and roles (Dominant, submissive or switch).
  • Dates: when it starts, and when you'll review it.
  • Safe words: a stop word, a slow-down word and a signal for when speaking is hard. Need one? Try the safe word generator.
  • Limits: hard limits you never cross, and soft limits you only approach after talking.
  • Check-ins: how often you'll talk about how it's going.
  • Protocols (optional): titles, rituals and small rules, like the pet names you use.
  • Aftercare, privacy, health and safety, including sober play.
  • Renegotiating and ending it, at any time, by either of you.

Hard limits vs soft limits

A hard limit is a firm no: it never happens, and nobody brings it up during a scene. A soft limit is a maybe: something you'd only try after talking it through, slowly, with the right to stop.

Limits change. Review them at every check-in, and treat anything not on the list as off-limits until you've both said yes.

Is a BDSM contract legally binding?

No. Treat it as a written record of what you've agreed, not a legal contract. Consent has to be ongoing: either of you can stop a scene or end the agreement at any moment, and a signature never changes that.

That's why this template always includes the right to stop, sober play, and an easy way out, and why you can't switch those clauses off.

Aftercare and check-ins

Aftercare is the time after a scene when you look after each other: water, a blanket, cuddling, quiet or a talk. Check-ins are the regular conversations where you say what worked and what to change. Write both down. They're the easiest things to skip when life gets busy.
